Every month the Undergraduate Programs Unit will highlight an Ambassador(s) that has contributed to the Schulich and York Community by demonstrating leadership, professionalism and/or outstanding achievement.  Congratulations to Cecilia Tam, iBBA ’13 our Ambassador of the Month for February.

Cecilia has been an active Ambassador since first year. Her genuine passion for the School and the Ambassador Program is evident in all that she does. Now in her 4th year of study, Cecilia was invited to become a member of the Ambassador Task Force.  The Task Force is a NEW initiative which consists of 15 Senior Ambassadors who work closely with the Undergraduate Programs Unit (UPU) to develop training modules for junior Ambassadors, brainstorm new opportunities for leadership and recognition, as well as conduct focus groups on Ambassador engagement.  Members of the Ambassador Task Force continue to participate in recruitment and special events hosted by the UPU as Team Leads. The Task Force will allow the members to develop skills in event management, training, supervision, logistical planning, program coordination and team leadership.

Cecilia was our very first Ambassador Task Force member to take on a very important role in our first recruitment event for prospective students. She was the Ambassador Event Coordinator for York University Fall Campus Day on November 17th, 2012.  It is a campus wide open house where the various faculties have an opportunity to showcase their programs and students via presentations, campus and building tours. Cecilia wasted no time taking charge including training 1st year Ambassadors and organizing the logistics of the day.  Then the unexpected happened…on the morning of the event, the UPU was short staffed but you wouldn’t notice as Cecilia took on the responsibility of running the show behind the scenes without hesitation.  She demonstrated exemplary leadership and teamwork. Her calm nature helped the 60 Junior Ambassadors stay focused and on task. It is safe to say the event would not have been a success without her.

Cecilia is fluent in six languages and has just returned from a six month exchange in France.  Cecilia is also a Mentor for the Schulich Protégé program where she provides support and guidance to first year students during their transition from high school to university.  This past summer Cecilia worked as a Recruiter for the Summer Jobs Services division of the YMCA.  Given her dedication and enthusiasm for the Ambassador Program, the iBBA and the Schulich School of Business, we couldn’t be more proud to select Cecilia as the Ambassador of the Month for February.
