Year 1 and Year 4 i/BBAs: NSSE IS OPEN!

Running Feb. 27th – Apr. 3, first and fourth year students will be asked to participate in the 2023 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).

What is NSSE?

NSSE (pronounced “Nessie”) stands for the National Survey of Student Engagement. It’s a Canada-wide assessment tool used to examine the effectiveness of undergraduate education and to set new objectives for the School based on areas of need. The survey is offered once every three years and is open to students in Year 1 and Year 4 of their undergraduate degree. It only takes 15 minutes to complete, and is an important opportunity for first year and graduating students.

Why should I participate in NSSE?

  • This is your opportunity to help identify the strengths of the York U and Schulich academic experience, as well as priorities for change. It’s an important initiative and we look forward to receiving feedback from all of you!
  • Students who successfully complete the NSSE survey are eligible to redeem their choice of a grande latte at Starbucks (Keele campus), a medium coffee at Tim Horton’s (Glendon campus), a $5 York Lanes gift card or a $5 Break Room gift card. They will also be entered into a draw to win 1 of 4 $500 tuition waivers. Learn more about incentives and prizes.
  • The York U faculty with the highest student participation rate wins the NSSE Champion Cup! Schulich WON the last time NSSE was offered – help keep our legacy alive!

What kind of impact does NSSE have?

NSSE results have led to changes in student programs and services offered across the York University campus and here at Schulich. Here are some areas that were identified as opportunities, and changes that have followed the NSSE survey:

Student Study Space
The McEwen Graduate & Research Building opened its doors in January 2019, freeing up study space for Schulich students in the Seymour Schulich Building.

Wellness
A Wellness Certificate program was designed to support students and grow community awareness around health and well-being.

Accessible Academic Advising
New virtual and in-person advising appointments were developed to provide easy access to student support throughout each academic year.

When can I fill out the NSSE?

The survey is now open! An e-mail invitation to complete the survey was sent to eligible students from Nona Robinson, VP Students. You can also find a personalized link in e-Class or, you can click on the Eligibility Tool at yorku.ca/nsse.

To all students eligible to participate: thanks for doing your part to continually improve the student experience at Schulich and YorkU.
