Odds are great that during your time at Schulich, you will be looking to grab a bite to eat between classes, or maybe just get a cup of coffee to keep you going through the day. While you will eventually explore most of the campus and find your favourite spots, I’d like to share some of my recommendations for on-campus eats, depending on what you are looking for. Follow along on the York University Keele Campus Map!

In House

Schulich offers the Marketplace Café on the main floor, as well as Tuchner’s in the basement. If you are looking for stellar Nanaimo bars, a snack like pita with hummus, or a crafted coffee beverage without setting foot outside, the Marketplace Café is the place to go. Tuchner’s French fries are unbeatable, but if you are on the hungrier side, chicken strips and grilled cheese are also favourites.

Tim Horton’s

You will soon come to find out exactly where each of these Canadian havens of deliciousness are located. The closest ones to Schulich are in Seneca (map ID: 40) and the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building (map ID:39), but these are just for coffee and some bakery treats. If you are looking for the full Tim Horton’s with sandwiches and soups, you’ll need to head over to the William Small Centre (map ID:15).

Starbucks

The coffee heaven that is Starbucks is located conveniently just two buildings over, in the Burton Auditorium Building (map ID:37). And while you can collect lots of gold stars, be prepared to wait a while – the line is typically quite long, so allocate at least 10 minutes to receive your order.

York Lanes

The York University “shopping mall” is home to some crowd pleasing favourites and comfort food options. If you are looking for chicken from Popeyes, pad thai from Thai Express, or a burrito bowl from Z-Teca, then you should head to York Lanes (map ID:24)! While lines can snake outside these hotspots during the lunch hour, dinner or later night eats typically see shorter wait times. All of these options come in super convenient to-go boxes, so you can easily take your meal anywhere on campus with you.

While deep fried goodness is always nice, sometimes you just need something a little on the healthier side. For those cravings, you can look to Booster Juice, Freshii, or Treats. Located in Curtis Lecture Halls (map ID:26), the older Lassonde buildings (map ID:19), and the Student Centre (map ID:23), respectfully, these spots offer more fruit and veggie based options, like salads, smoothies, steamed veggie teriyaki bowls or wraps that will have you feeling full without the fast food feeling!

During your time here, don’t be afraid to explore the campus, and try out lots of new places. By no means did I hit all the great food places on campus, but I hope this will at least help point you in the right direction during your first few weeks. Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
