It’s the time of year where summer internship offers are rolling in, and we couldn’t be happier for our students. Some students may be eligible to use their summer internship for course credit in the form of IBUS 4100: Work Placement. Full course details are available here.

If you are interested in pursuing IBUS 4100, please be advised that there are several levels of approval required in order to be enrolled in the course and garner course credit. In addition to receiving approval from the course instructor, you are required to do a mandatory pre-departure session before leaving. This session takes approximately 75 minutes to complete, and is facilitated by International Relations. Ideally, you will partake in a pre-departure session at least two weeks in advance of leaving for your work placement.

Approval from both the course instructor and International Relations must be indicated on the Undergraduate International Work Placement Form. If all requirements are met, you will be manually enrolled in IBUS 4100 by Student Enrolment Services. It is important to note that you may not receive all necessary approvals. An example of how this could occur is if your work placement is in a country that’s currently on the government “avoid non-essential travel” list. These concerns can be discussed directly with International Relations, and do not necessarily preclude you from proceeding with your internship.

If you have an opportunity that you think might qualify for IBUS 4100, please start the process by emailing your placement proposal to Professor Farrokh Zandi, with a CC to intlrelations@schulich.yorku.ca
