Bernard M. Wolf, Professor Professor, Director, Certificate in International Management bwolf@schulich.yorku.ca

The Certificate in International Management (CIM) is the only Certificate available at the undergraduate level.  Students get a separate Certificate in addition to their Diploma in recognition for their achievements in International Business/Management.

CIM is designed for those students who want to delve more deeply into International Business/Management than is available in the iBBA or BBA.

No extra courses are required (beyond the 120 credits for the Degree), but several specific courses are required (some of which can be taken on exchange).  There are more required courses for BBAs than iBBAs since some of the courses are already in the iBBA curriculum.  Just to mention two of the required courses.  IBUS 3200, Managing International Business Activities, is taught by Dr. Mauricio Zelaya, a consultant at EY (Partner)*.   The other course is IBUS 4200, the Integrative International Business Seminar which features business executives working in International Business. They talk about their successes and failures with a view to helping students build their career path in International Business/Management.  Both courses are unique in that they bring together the various marketing, finance, economics, operations management, and information systems courses, etc.  Such integration is vital for carrying out business decisions since these are made in a holistic fashion with consideration of all relevant factors.  Both courses are highly practical and apply tools to “the real world.”

The aim of CIM is to develop a “global mindset.”  The stand-alone Certificate can be used to enhance one’s job opportunities.  Please see the endorsements from students who have earned the CIM.

* “Today’s market is abounding with all kinds of challenges and opportunities. We empower clients with deep understanding of what those changes, trends and shifts mean, and help them seize that understanding to grow and evolve for the better.” MZ, instructor in IBUS 3200 and partner at EY Consultants.

The Bernard M. Wolf Prize of Excellence in the Certificate in International Management Recipient

I would like to express my sincerest gratitude and to thank you so much for this highly prestigious award. It is truly such an honour to receive it for this year, given the impact that the CIM has had on my journey at Schulich. The Certificate in International Management has provided me the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and technical capabilities that not only have prepared me but have empowered me to take on an international career. This award confirms my thoughts on the CIM; no matter which avenue I pursue moving forward, the CIM was the best decision I made while at Schulich and the global mindset it developed is surely an extraordinary skill to possess as I enter the workforce. Thank you for your donation, it’s moments like these that push and encourage students like myself to continue growing and I’ll be sure to leverage this award to continue developing my global capabilities as I embark on my career beyond Schulich.

Student Testimonials:

“My experience with CIM has been EXCEPTIONAL as it has allowed me to peer into the minds of incredible business leaders, a host of industries and life advice I will never forget!!  The 1 in 1 interaction and question period is truly invaluable.”

“As opposed to most courses, CIM truly depicts the FULL PICTURE of everything I have learnt in my Schulich undergrad and sets the CONTEXT in real world situations. This program teaches me in part the MINDSET and CHARACTER required to succeed in whatever I wish to pursue and just how much it can pay off.  I will cultivate this moving forward.”

“I am unbelievably grateful to have had this experience and would recommend it as a ‘must-do’ for any curious, ambitious student looking to have an international career!!”

“My experience with CIM has been eye opening and wonderful.  The CIM gives students a chance to explore a variety of subjects – not just individual siloed courses.  The CIM courses often bring together theoretical and real-life examples, teaching the true complexity and potential in international business.  Exposure to company speakers, cases and experienced professors who have worded globally has really opened my mind to the types of careers that exist.”

“CIM has enhanced my job opportunities, as I was seeking employment in an international CPG company and having the Certificate on my resumé helped me stand out from other candidates and get the position.”

“One exciting thing about being an iBBA and going for my CIM is that there is really nothing like it offered anywhere else. The international background and configuration of the program, especially in the latter half of the degree, really helps students understand how business is conducted on a global scale. Outside the course content, the professors and guest speakers of these courses have provided invaluable insights about their personal experiences and have helped students realize the endless career opportunities that exist and how we can apply some of what we’ve learned in the real world.  INTL4200  is by far one of the most useful and interesting courses I have ever taken.”
