Pass/Fail Option: FAQs

York University has extended the deadline for students to request a Pass/Fail option in their final grades to May 9.

1. Can i/BBA students use this option?

8. I’m planning to apply to graduate school. Should I choose Pass/Fail?
This depends on the program and school to which you are interested in applying. If they have required grades that you need to achieve in specific courses, it is in your best interest to not choose Pass/Fail for those classes. We encourage you to review the admissions website for the programs that you are interested in. Each school and program will evaluate Pass/Fail courses differently.

9. How is my GPA calculated if I choose Pass/Fail?
Your GPA will be calculated without taking into account the courses in which you received a “P”. If you selected the pass/fail option and receive an F, then that is NOT included in the calculation of the overall GPA and will not count towards credits.  If you get an F and did not select pass/fail, then the F is included in the GPA calculation. Students are still expected to achieve a minimum 5.00 GPA to meet promotion requirements and continue in the program without disruption.

10. Can I use Pass/Fail for Fall classes?
No. This option is only available for Winter 2020 courses and year-long Fall 2019 – Winter 2020 courses.

Deferred Exams: FAQs

Students have the right to write their exams in the original in-person format. Continue reading to learn more.

1. How do I opt to write my exam in the original in-person format?
All exams have transitioned to online or an alternate format (take home, online, assignment, etc.). However, students have the right to write their exams in the original in person format. To do this, please complete the Deferred (In-Person) Exam Request before the scheduled format exam. Please note that you will not be able to write your exam until the university campus opens again. For exams already in progress, you must submit this form before the deadline for submission of the exam.

2. I am sick and cannot write my scheduled exam (take home, online, etc.).
If you are sick and cannot complete your scheduled exam, please complete the Deferred Standing Request and notify your course instructor within 24 hours of missing the exam. Your professor will then schedule a makeup exam for you. The makeup exam will be the same format as the scheduled exam.
