For a specialization in Operations Management & Information Systems (OMIS), students are currently required to take a minimum of 12.00 credits. In order to provide more guidance to students who wish to go into the area, the OMIS area has provided some handy specialization paths.

Why?

  • To help minimize confusion as to what courses you should take, which courses are quantitative vs. qualitative, and which courses you’d be good at, when deciding whether to pursue an OMIS specialization;
  • To focus your development on skills that employers are looking for; and
  • To prepare interested students to go on to complete the Master of Business Analytics (MBAN) program, or to pursue a career or further education in the field of Supply Chain Management.

Three Sub-Specializations or Streams

Students are recommended to follow one of three paths within this specialization.

  1. General OMIS specialization (minimum 12.00 credits in OMIS): Just like before, you can select your elective courses and fulfill any 12.00 credits of the specialization.
  2. Specialization in Data Modeling and Analytics (9.00 credits in DATA MODELING AND ANALYTICS and at least 3.00 other credits in OMIS). Emphasizing quantitative courses, this sub-specialization is suitable for those on a technical career path. See courses below.
  3. Specialization in Supply Chain Management (9.00 credits in SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT and at least 3.00 credits other credits in OMIS). This specialization would be well-suited to you if you’re looking to land a managerial role after graduation. See courses below.

Remember: Regardless of which OMIS courses you take, as long as you complete 12.00 credits, you will receive an OMIS specialization. These sub-specializations are suggestions only.
