York University & Innovation York are excited to formally launch a new entrepreneurship program: LaunchYU.

The program is designed to assist entrepreneurs in creating and growing their startups into sustainable business ventures.

· LaunchYU will provide series of workshops, networking events and various opportunities throughout the academic year.

· LaunchYU will also run two 10-week accelerator programs in the summer. The accelerator programs will be run on campus by our partners: YEDI Institute and ventureLAB.

· We are also building a community of entrepreneurs, innovators, and like-minded individuals on an exclusive social platform: Collidehub.

Collidehub provides you with an opportunity to network with students, alumni, faculty, and external community members and helps you keep updated about events happening across campus and in the surrounding community. It also provides you an access to entrepreneurial resources and content.

Jan 20, 2015, 4 pm onwards: LaunchYU Mingle
LaunchYU Mingle is the York University’s monthly entrepreneurial meet-up held at the Underground (held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month). This is an informal event organized for everyone interested in entrepreneurship, to meet other fellow like-minded individuals, share their ideas and network with the wider community. Jan 29, 2015, 3 pm – 6 pm: ‘Entrepreneurship – What to expect’ by ventureLAB and York start-up Lychee
VentureLAB along with some technology entrepreneurs will bust the myths surrounding entrepreneurship and guide new entrepreneurs on finding and serving customers, financing and investment. Please register for this workshop here.

Feb 18-19, 2015: Steacie Library HackFest, supported by LaunchYU
HackFest is spending two days collaborating with your fellow students on a particular project, and bringing the project to reality! This year’s theme is Hacking for a better world. The theme is about creating a tool (product/service) that can make the world a better place. If you want to gain experience bringing an idea to life, or just want to participate in a fun collaborative environment, you shall attend the HackFest. March 25, 11 am – 2 pm: “Write Your Own Provisional Patent Application”
Start up companies are invited to a hands on session on writing a Provisional Patent Application. Learn the basics, save money and meet industry leading patent professionals Andrew Currier and Robert Stratton of PCK Perry + Currier, Toronto. Please register for this workshop here.
